Ok… so a few weeks ago, Drake was on Saturday Night Live, and while he didn’t perform in many sketches, he did have the most FANTASTIC musical number with Jay Pharoah during the Weekend Update. Drake and Pharoah appeared as “Two Teenagers Dressed as Werewolves” and proceeded to tell Seth Meyers about their new favorite Halloween tradition, “Bag Jackin’.”

The only link I can find that includes the entire rap doesn’t have the video, so you’ll have to use your imagination and combine the photo above, the music at this link, and the lyrics below for the full effect — or download the episode illegally, not that I condone that sort of thing.

Definitely not the sort of Halloween message I usually send out, but the lyrics are pretty genius and Drake is pretty hot — Yes, in this instance it would appear that I’m THAT girl. Ha ha ha.

So, until someone gets all “copyright infringement” on me, enjoy this little nugget of Halloween awesomeness! Though, please don’t be a jerk and go steal bags of candy from children… or if you do, don’t tell them that I gave you the idea.

FINALLY!

I have been waiting for what feels like FOREVER for this movie to come out!

Why, you might ask, do I care so much about a Joseph Gordon-Levitt movie about cancer?

Well, for one thing, I’m of the mind-set that JGL is AWESOME, and for another, for one crazy week in 2010, my office in Vancouver was turned into ‘Seattle Public Radio’ and Seth Rogen and JGL were on-site filming.

I got very little work done that week, as it was my first time being so close to a full-scale production like that, but it was so interesting to be up close and personal to the production, the crew and the stars.

Seth Rogen was hilarious, he hung out and took photos with all of us, and the production crew were incredibly friendly as well. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) JGL is such a method-actor that he wasn’t much in the spirit for taking photos — or at least that’s what the PA’s told us. ;)

Either way, I’m definitely looking forward to this coming out, and I’m glad they went with the title “50/50” instead of the previous working title, “I’m with Cancer.”

It seems that more and more lately we’re suffering from information overload. There are facts, figures and datas spreading out over the interwebs as far as they eye can see; and with those datas have come the newest wave of haute-informatique — the infographic.

Rarely can I glance at my twitter feed without seeing at least one post featuring the latest insights expressed as an infographic — including my personal favorite, the infographic of infographics. (Thank you Ivan Cash, you genius, you.)

Don’t get me wrong, I love a good infographic as much as the next person, and that’s why I’m very excited for the launch of visual.ly, “The world’s largest community for exploring, sharing, creating, and promoting data visualizations.” So far, I gotta say, I’m loving it. First, it’s a good looking site, second it’s full of useful information, third, it’s promoting the hard working designers who create these visual treats and fourth, it’s where I found the above graphic that FINALLY answers the age old question, “How much can you trust a bearded man?”

Sadly, this graphic has forced me to call a few things into question this morning — For example, Jimmy Buffett always wished he had a “pencil thin mustache,” and my favorite local sports hero, Eric Hassli could now be considered “threatening” with his neck beard… Hmmmmm.

So what’s the point of all this?

No, seriously, I started writing and kinda forgot the point of all this…

Oh yeah, ok — here we go, a few points:

1. Welcome to the web visual.ly, I love what you’re doing so far and I look forward to hunting down other highly ‘useful’ infographics in the future.

2. Infographics are fun, but like all information available to us out there, do your own research before blindly believing everything you see (no matter how beautifully designed it is!)

3. I’d still be Hassli’s BFF, neck beard or not. ;)

Ok, I haven’t been posting as often as I used to, so some of you might have forgotten what I’m all about. Allow the photo above to remind you — if it is in any way related to cupcakes and dorkiness, or if you’re clever enough to combine cupcakes’ cousin the cakepop with one of the ultimate symbols of dork-dom, the golden snitch, I can hardly hit the “post to tumblr” button fast enough!

For those of you who aren’t sure what you’re looking at, that’s a Golden Snitch Cake Pop, but wait, it gets better because it’s made with a Butterbeer Cake recipe! That sentence may have left some of you scratching your heads in confusion, and if so, I apologize — there are some things in life better left to the initiated, and Harry Potter references are one of them.

With HP 7.2 opening this weekend, witches, wizards and muggles the world over are prepping themselves for hours (days!) in line by packing up sleeping bags, well-worn copies of The Deathly Hallows and delicious treats like these (and hopefully some deoderant…) to help them survive the wait until they can finally watch Harry kick some Dark Lord butt. Don’t get me wrong, if I didn’t have a grown-up job I’d be right there with them.

Instead, I will do the adult thing and sneak out of work early on Friday to catch a matinee. That’s right, that’s how mature people do it.

Note: This recipe is from amybites, an insightful, well-written blog for people who love baking AND eating healthy (seems like an oxymoron, right?) The instructions are easy to follow, there are lots of great pictures and, though I don’t know her, she seems like the kind of person whose blog you should follow. IMHO.

Boy oh boy, this is awesome!

Honestly, how fantastic would this be if it were real and hanging on my wall?! Ok, it would be incredibly creepy, but still really awesome.

Embarrassing true story time —

When I was younger, my family and I went to Yellowstone National Park and stayed in the famous old Yellowstone Hotel. The hotel itself is incredibly gorgeous, the old log structure that was the original hotel still remains, with new wings branching off in several directions. The ‘new’ wings are still fairly old, and the decoration of them is not unlike the Overlook Hotel in, you guessed it, The Shining.

My sister and I were walking down the hallway to find the ice machine when we started joking about how the only thing missing was us racing through the long hallways in pedal cars, a la Danny Torrence. My sister started in with a chorus of, “Come play with us, Wendy” and I followed with, “forever, and ever, and ever…”

We then posed the question of what would be scarier, if the creepy twins appeared suddenly in front of us, or behind us. We both hesitantly glanced backwards and immediately started screaming uncontrollably and running down the hallway as fast as our legs would carry us. It was only once we reached the room with the ice machine (and the very confused looking man who was in the room at the time getting ice) that we burst out laughing.

I’m not saying exactly when this happened, but we were not kids. We were full-grown adults, running and screaming at the thought of these, now immortalized in neon, twins.

Don’t judge.

Or at least don’t judge too harshly.

I first saw the NoteSlate featured on Uncrate, my favorite site for tech tidbits and other bite-sized awesomeness, and I was instantly intrigued by its simplistic appearance, USB connectivity and low price point, but now I think I like this gadget most for its website that is hilariously ESL.

First, let me start by saying that I wish I could have found a higher resolution photo of the cover of this amazing book, but alas, this was the best the interwebs would serve up.

*sad face*

In case you weren’t aware, The Oatmeal is one of the greatest things on the net. It constantly serves up hilarious comics that make my easily-distracted self stray from important projects all the time. Whether it’s zombies, dinosaurs, pigs or coffee-related humor, there’s something for everyone!

(and by “everyone” I clearly mean people with a sense of humor similar to my own… but since The Oatmeal only debuted in the spring of 2009 and gets somewhere around a quarter of a billion, yes BILLION, pageviews per year, it’s safe to say there are a LOT of people out there with a sense of humor similar to mine. In other words — I rule.)

But back to The Oatmeal and the reason we’re all here… there’s something BIG coming from the genius mind behind The Oatmeal, Matthew Inman, that’s right, he’s releasing a book — the book shown above as a matter of fact: “5 Very Good Reasons to Punch a Dolphin in the Mouth” (and Other Useful Guides) and it looks awesome! Not only does it contain some of the classics featured on the site, but it also includes 25 never-before-seen comics and a pull out poster (which I’m guessing will be adorning dorm rooms around the country before long!)

So, after March 1st, grab yourself a coffee, ignore that project you’ve been working on and settle in with a copy of “5 Very Good Reasons to Punch a Dolphin in the Mouth” (and Other Useful Guides) because I guarantee you won’t be sorry.

E-P-I-C!

First, it was getting used to video games having trailers. Then, it was watching those trailers become more cinematographically amazing than most movies. Now, it’s wondering whether or not you should feel silly for having a video game trailer bring a tear to your eye.

Is it the backwards animation? Is it the slow motion? Is it the eerie piano music? Is it the zombies? (I know that I tend to be terribly biased towards things that contain undead awesomeness…)

Whatever it is, this trailer is incredible and I dare you to watch it and say otherwise!

That being said, if you do watch it and say otherwise, keep it to yourself. Just kidding. Kinda.

So, who’s excited for IGN to provide more details, like a release date? Ok, who besides me?

Today’s (Valentine) Obsession: “Addicted to Love” by Florence and the Machine.

(If you’re keeping track at home, there’s a good chance this has been an “Obsession” before — so sue me!)

They may not have walked away with a Grammy, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t amazing! (It truly IS an honor just to be nominated — hear that Beiber!? jk.)

The fact that they cover this 80’s Robert Palmer classic makes Florence Welch and friends even more amazing in my books.

This Week’s Obsession: “Nice N Clean” by Chromeo

In honor of Chromeo playing two, count ‘em TWO sold out shows here in Vancouver this past week, I had to post this great video from my fave kid’s show, Yo Gabba Gabba. (Yes, I have a favorite kid’s show. What can I say!? I’m young at heart!)

I was totally disappointed that they didn’t play this song during the show — apparently my Twitter request went unheard — but since the lineup of songs they did play was so awesome, I figured I could let it slide.

That being said, I still wanted to share this song because I’m sure a lot of you had no idea it existed! It is definitely one of the few, if not the only, song that makes washing your hands cool, so next time you’re standing at the sink preparing to “lather up, lather up” think of this awesome tune and before you know it, you’ll be “Nice N Clean!”

*For those of you looking to judge Yo Gabba Gabba (or my love thereof), some of their other guests have included: The Killers, MGMT, Hot Hot Heat, Sarah Silverman, Elijah Wood, The Shins and The Ting Tings… so in other words, it rocks!

This Valentine’s Day, the ”Eat Your Heart Out Team” is wondering if you have “the stomach to literally eat your loved one’s heart out?”

It appears that the age old idea is being taken to a new level at the London Dungeon in jolly old England for “couples who shun the sentimentality of Valentine’s Day and are looking for something with a little more bite.”

I can handle a lot, but I’m not sure I could actually eat one of those. I mean, I strongly believe in all things cupcake, but is this crossing a line for me?! Possibly.

With so many amazing tees available from Threadless, it’s easy to miss one or two (or fifty) but thankfully this tee, aptly named “Friday, I’m in Love!” (circa 2008), was featured as part of Threadless’ “Stuff We Luv” collection…

And rightfully so!

You don’t have to be a fan of The Cure to appreciate this design, but it will definitely help!

Aside from the many reasons why this shirt is awesome: creative design, distressed finish, non-obvious 80’s reference, etc, it’s rare to find shirts that you can sing along to… and it’s even more rare to find them on sale for only $14!

What have you learned about me so far? Addicted to Zombies? Check. Cupcake devotee? Yes, indeed. Star Wars fan(-atic)? Totally. Avid book reader? Mais, oui!

Well, here’s a new lesson for those of you who hadn’t put it together yet… I am, without a doubt, one-hundred-percent HOOKED on my daily dose of “Stuff [I] never knew [I] wanted,” courtesy of Uncrate.

Honestly guys, how do you do it? Do have spies watching my every move? Do you hold top secret meetings in which you plot ways to infiltrate my inbox with delicious little tidbits that are EXACTLY what I wanted, when I wanted it?!

However you do it, you’ve proven your mettle again today.

Needless to say, a trip to the ‘ol bookstore is now in my future, even though I’m exactly the kind of conspiracy theorist who should NOT know that “half of humanity carries a parasite that could take over its brain” and will definitely not benefit from learning the other disturbing facts contained within the pages of this book.

Well played, CW. Well played.

I’m loving this latest idea for billboards to promote the vamp-love, rom-dram, Vampire Diaries. Honestly, when your target demographic is tweens, teens and twenty-somethings, why not encourage them to A) watch your show and B) protect themselves. Er, uh, riiiight.

According to the article in NY Mag’s Vulture, the CW claims that “VD simply stands for Vampire Diaries, and anyone who thinks otherwise should probably get themselves checked out.”

That being said, my mind did NOT go instantly to Vampire Diaries, so I’m going to cut this short and head to the walk-in clinic.
