Think Globally, Shop Locally…
As if Granville Island wasn’t charming enough already, this weekend I found a jewelry stand that made me almost giddy. Situated among the arts & crafts tables (many of which are questionable at best) was a true diamond in the rough; boasting gorgeous medallions and pendants, earrings and even cufflinks, Black Drop Designs is an incredible oasis of “must have” creations that somehow manages to find the balance between being trendy, vintage, kitschy and classic.
Who’s the genius behind Black Drop? Her name is Jade Pellerin, a Vancouverite who designs and lovingly makes each piece by hand. The jewels all begin with one of her photographs and she says she takes her inspiration from “nature and the city and the shapes and silhouettes that they create.” The end result? Incredible keepsake-worthy items that anyone would be happy to receive as a gift, but that you might be sad to part with once you’ve purchased.
If you’re worried that discovering a new jewelry line will send you into credit card hell, don’t fret, Black Drop’s prices are incredible reasonable (ie. $32 for a pendant AND silver chain!) and you’re supporting a local artist… win, win!
Visit Black Drop’s website for a calendar of upcoming appearances or order directly from the site and have it delivered to your door… what a nice way to say “Happy (insert excuse for jewelry here) Day!” to yourself or someone you love.
Possible excuses include: “Happy Laundry Day!”, “Happy Job Interview Day!”, “Happy ‘Sorry I Stole Your Boyfriend’ Day!” and many more… What occasions can you think of?
