I doubt this is what people had in mind when they coined the phrase “think globally, act locally” but I still feel it applies.
Vancouver has long since been a bevy of awesomeness, so it seems only natural that Vancouver would boast a bevy of bevvies as well. The upcoming Vancouver Craft Beer Week is a chance to celebrate these local bevvies and the brewmasters who lovingly and painstakingly brew them.
So you now see where the “act locally” comes in, as I’m definitely in favor of supporting local breweries and seeing what some of them have to offer, but you may be wondering about the “think globally”… well, as luck would have it, the VCBW will apparently also be showcasing some international artisanal beers and introducing them to Vancouver-based beer drinkers like myself. yay! Not to mention the fact that exposure of the local beer market will only help it to expand on an international scale… double yay!
It’s their first year, so I wish them luck in growing what’s sure to become a fantastically fun, albeit hangover-inducing, event.
May 10-16th at venues across Vancouver. See website for details.
